Professor Hosokawa from Japan Visited to Negotiate Collaboration Agreement

Between the 22^nd and 24^th of March, the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemical Technology was visited by professor Shinya Hosokawa of the Kumamoto University in Japan. The aim of his visit was to negotiate a collaboration agreement between the research centres in Japan and Pardubice.

Professor Hosokawa discussed a proposal for a joint research project with the representatives of the Faculty of Chemical Technology. “Together with professor Hosokawa we would like to prepare a joint research project as made possible by last September’s memorandum of research and scientific cooperation between the Czech Ministry of Youth, Education and Sports, the International Visegrad Fund, the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund, the National Center for Research and Development of Poland, the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and the Japan Science and Technology Agency,” prof. Ing. Tomáš Wágner, CSc., of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry, the Faculty of Chemical Technology, says to explain the main purpose of the visit. “These projects of Japan and the Visegrad Group should bring in new dynamics into the cooperation between the participating countries especially in the area of academic, research and development collaboration.”

Lecture on the structure of memory materials

During his stay at the ��ɫֱ��, professor Hosokawa also gave a lecture on the structure of memory materials used in DVDs to record data. The new materials are based on amorphous chalcogens, which are, also thanks to the finished European project “CAMELS”, studied at the Faculty of Chemical Technology.

The visit at the ��ɫֱ�� was not professor Hosokawa’s first. In 2002 and 2012 he attended two important international conferences organised by the Faculty of Chemical Technology (International Symposium on non-oxide glasses -ISNOG2002 and 10th International Conference on Solid State Chemistry – SSC2012).

Asian and especially Japanese universities and research centres are traditional and long-standing partners of the ��ɫֱ�� in research and development cooperation as well as in young researchers’ mobility programmes.  The university has an extensive collaboration programme for example with the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba, Japan, where a number of doctoral students and young researchers from the Faculty of Chemical Technology gained experience. The university also has cooperation agreements with several other Japanese universities, such as Matsumoto, Kyoto, or Nagoya.
